Education

“I love learning cello with Monique. She is so patient and makes it fun, and inspires me because she is so talented.”  – Ava, 13

“Monique’s teaching style is different to other teachers. She inspires creativity and fun with a strong dedication to correct technique. As an adult student, I would recommend her to any adult beginners! Lessons are always fun and challenging, I can hardly believe it when our hour lesson is up.” – Laura, adult student

“I feel very fortunate to have found Monique. She is an extremely talented and knowledgeable musician who brings a rich variety of musical styles and pedagogical approaches to each class.” – Hebe, mature aged student

Learn with me! I can teach you classical or folk, through grades or freestyle. You can rely on each lesson being specifically tailored to you. I believe it’s important to approach learning in a holistic way, which includes some theory, physics of sound, technical work, aural learning, sight reading and improvisation.

I have taught at the Afghanistan National Institute of Music, Stringmania Scottish fiddle camp, band camps for Stuartholme school & Marist Brothers College, the Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra camp and Rockhampton Winter Music School. I spent time as a cello teacher at Mater Dei Primary School and Mount St Michael’s College and have been teaching privately for 6 years. I am very interested in exploring different learning patterns and how to get the best out of each individual student. I strongly believe in respecting my students and valuing their own musical ideas.

  1. Monique,

We are looking for a cello teacher for our son Sam. Sam is entering grade 4 primary school this year, and after a year of pestering us for a cello (after we went to the “the 2 cellos” early last year) we finally got him one late last year. We haven’t yet found a teacher – your name was given to us by my mother (Jean Catchpoole) who is an old friend of your grandmother (?) Francis Clark. Sam is a pretty talented little musician, planning to do gr2 AMEB violin early this year, and Cello will be his second instrument. We’d like to make contact with you to see if we could work something out for this year.

    Rob and Jane Catchpoole
